I started by sketching the ship with pencil. I took this sketch into Illustrator were I hand traced it and created new parts. Finally it was placed into Indesign.
When we started this design process we looked at different books that are now in the public domain. I've always loved Peter Pan so I chose this story.
After chosing a story we needed to find a chapter that began with the letter we wanted to use. I scanned the chapters and settled on the letter "O". If you look at the waves in the illustration you can see that they spell out Hook, for Captain Hook.
I made two drop caps for this assigment. The other being the image of Peter Pan and the moon in shape of an "O". I thought the Jolly Roger and Peter Pan would both be easily recognizable.
